Furniture

Bespoke wooden furniture that makes everyday life more comfortable and more beautiful. These pieces are examples from past commissions and can be redesigned to meet your unique needs and tastes

Corner Desk

Not your ordinary writing desk! This bent parallelogram shape is designed to fit well in any corner, allowing you to work on either side.

Features:

  • Solid ash sourced in County Durham
  • Finished on each side with an angled ‘breadboard’ to prevent warping during the wet and humid season
  • Joined with round pegs of European walnut, adding a distinct visual and haptic feature
  • Finished with a pigmented oil to maintain the nice pale look of the ash

Anywhere Cabinet

This cabinet you can use pretty much anywhere in your house.  But it is certainly not just ‘any cabinet’. This beauty has a very light design, featuring a door of dhaka fabric– a traditional handwoven textile from Nepal. This unique pattern meets another traditional material, English oak from just around the corner.

Features:

  • Solid oak sourced in County Durham
  • Dhaka fabric sourced from SABAH in Patan, Nepal (with many thanks)
  • The fabric door allows air circulate while concealing everything in the cabinet
  • The bottom frame is joined with dovetails, the top with through wedged tenon joints. The tenons are sticking out, to give a unique haptic to the piece. The bridal joints of the door guarantee a solid frame for the fabric and absolutely no need for wooden panels
  • Finished with a natural oil to let the oak shine in its natural beauty

Side Table

The perfect companion for evenings in an armchair with a glass of wine and book. This piece is taller than usual side tables so that everything you need is easily within reach. The table is solidly built and stands on wavy legs inspired by designs from the 19th century Arts & Crafts movement.

Features:

  • Created out of a single 40mm slab of spalted beech sourced from the North East of England, the wood in this table shows a huge range of hues in its grain
  • The legs are cut (not bent) following the grain of the wood
  • The table top features classic ‘tenon’ joints containing strips of European walnut

Studio desk

Created to make desk work more beautiful and enjoyable. This piece was designed around an exceptionally unique piece of wood, but features all the important elements of a classic working desk - tabletop, four legs, two drawers.

Features:

  • This desk is made of spalted beech from a tree felled in County Durham
  • The grain of the table top is mirrored creating a symmetrical heart shape in the centre
  • The desk is joined in a traditional way with the help of ‘splines’, which are left visible at the sides of the table top
  • The drawers are made strong with hidden ‘dovetail joints’ and the whole front of the desk including the drawer fronts is made out of a single piece of wood, showcasing its gorgeous grain

Treasure boxes

These two boxes are made to last and they are treasures themselves. They are made of one slab of local ash and built to look similar but with distinctive features - like siblings, as they were also made for two siblings.

Features:

  • One single ash slab from County Durham.
  • Once more a lining of Dhaka fabric, sourced from SABAH, Nepal
  • The box bodies are dovetailed and the bottom and lid are inserted as dados.
  • The lids are book-matched
  • All fittings and catches are solid bronze and the box got a finish with a natural oil

Travel decanter box - Restoration / Reproduction

This travel box from olden times got very old - it needed a full rebuild preserving a few of the original elements. Have a glimpse at the new design, still keeping the three crystal decanters safe in place for the next train ride.

Features:

  • The new box is made of pear wood. The tree was felled on a farm in County Durham
  • Mitre joints hold the body together and inserted splines of solid walnut give the box extra strength
  • The bottom and lid are hold movable thanks to the dado joint, so that the box can travel to any climate without warping.
  • To host the decanters safely, the box features a lining made of Dhaka fabric from SABAH, Nepal
  • And a satin oil finish gives the travel box a new life
  • Fittings restored from the original box

Modern farmhouse desk

Inspired by traditional Swiss farmhouse table, this unique piece has a detachable tabletop and is purely made of only hornbeam wood and a hue of glue (from frame to hinges). The stunning spalted hornbeam wood gives desk a vibrant look and you can discover everyday a new detail in its grain and especially in the details of the joinery.

Features:

  • Made of spalted hornbeam from Greater London
  • This desk has it all, mitre, dovetail, castle, through tenon and mortise, dado, and many more joints. Try to find them all.
  • The desktop hosts one big drawer with a hinged flap and a small drawer with a lid.
  • The satin oil finish brings out the big contrast in the wood

The Unola

The Unola is a one-of-a-kind musical creation of Daren, a former colleague at Blackhorse Workshop. A beautiful instrument and a wonderful cooperation with so many fantastic crafts people. I was lucky to be invited to create the wooden top piece of the instrument, inspired by nature’s flowers.

    Book Shelves

These book shelves are as versatile as they are minimalistic. The aim was to create an elegant wooden frame that would make any room more beautiful without drawing too much attention away from the books themselves.

    Features:

    • This example is made of red pine with a tinted oil finish
    • The shelves are fully customisable; width, height, and type of wood can all be adjusted to the needs of your library
    • For stability, the shelves are slotted with ‘dado joints’ and the frame gets its strength from ‘tenon joints’ featuring strips of European walnut
